As an interior stylist, I’ve always believed that colour has the power to transform a space—shaping the mood, energy, and feel of a room.
When designing my own home, I wanted a colour palette that would feel warm, inviting and timeless. Here, I’ll take you through my colour choices and how they were paired with materials and finishes to create a cohesive, balanced space.
SOFT, NEUTRAL BASE
The foundation of my home’s colour scheme is based on soft, neutral tones that are warm and welcoming, yet sophisticated. For the main areas, I opted for Dulux Natural White as a warm white, which creates an understated backdrop that doesn’t overpower the more dramatic features of the space. This warm white provides the perfect canvas for highlighting the rich textures and natural materials throughout the house, including walnut cabinetry, Brazilian quartzite, and marble offcuts.
For the main bathroom. Powder room and downstairs guest bedroom I used Porters Paint Fresh Wash in Caraway. The soft beige tones of the the French wash texture add a softness to the space.
The beauty of neutral walls is their ability to tie everything together without drawing attention away from the focal materials and finishes. The warm beige and whites create a calming, cohesive atmosphere that allows for more playful and dynamic colours and textures in other areas.
OUR KITCHEN
One of the most important areas of my home design is the kitchen, where I wanted to create a space that felt grounded yet modern. For the cabinetry, I chose a soft, sage green - Dulux - Ramona —a colour that evokes a sense of nature and calm, and reflects the seaside location. Sage green pairs beautifully with the natural warmth of walnut cabinetry, which has a deep, luxurious finish that adds sophistication and richness to the space.
The beauty of sage lies in how it complements the natural materials surrounding it. In the kitchen, I paired this soft green with the striking onyx stone and Brazilian quartzite, creating a perfect harmony between cool, tranquil hues and warm, organic textures. The quartzite brings in subtle veins of brown and gold, working beautifully with the onyx to add a touch of opulence.
The result is a kitchen that feels both serene and luxurious. The combination of sage, walnut, and stone creates a warm yet understated environment that invites you to linger. The materials work together effortlessly, their colours amplifying each other and creating a beautiful balance of cool and warm tones.
OUR BATHROOMS
For the main-ensuite, I opted for soothing neutral tones, using a mix of walnut cabinetry, warm neutral stones and black accents to create a calm, spa-like retreat. The combination of these materials creates a balanced, grounding atmosphere. For the bathroom walls, I chose bejmat tiles—a Moroccan-inspired, hand-crafted tile that brings warmth and texture to the space. The off-white tones in the bejmat tiles create a soft, subtle contrast with the deeper, more striking colours of the black and stone elements of the floor
For the floor in the main bathroom I was inspired by the Italian Palladiana floors, that mix various marble offcuts. I used marble offcuts in a warm neutral palette varying from white, beige, coffee tones, burgundy and black which adds an element of sophistication and visual interest. The marble’s subtle veining and neutral tones bring an elegant touch, while the overall look remains calm and timeless. This floor is a testament to the beauty of recycling natural materials, creating a space that feels both luxurious and sustainable. It was not a short process, but definitely worth the result as one of my favourite features of my home.
Paired with the sage green painted doors which open up to this space, the combination of materials and colours creates a serene vibe perfect for unwinding at the end of the day.
OUR LIVING ROOM
In our living room, I designed a bespoke sofa with a neutral striped arm cushions, which offers a refined, relaxed look that complements the other design elements.
The soft, neutral tones of the sofa—paired with the earthy materials throughout the room—create a calming and welcoming space that feels inviting without being too bold or busy. To ground the room and add contrast, I chose accent pieces such as the Armadillo & Co forest green rug which are complemented by tones in the artworks.
OUR BEDROOM
In the bedroom, I aimed to create a peaceful retreat with a soothing colour palette of olive greens, and warm neutrals. The walls are a natural white that serves as a perfect backdrop, allowing the rich bedding tones to stand out. The bedding alternates between deeper blues and olive greens, creating a grounded, calming effect.
The rug is a checkerboard pattern in an off white and brown colourway. It's playful and works with the colour scheme of the room.
To complement the bedding, I chose soft, walnut wood tones for the furniture and incorporated a mix of textures like velvet cushions and linen bedding, adding warmth and depth. The overall colour scheme evokes a sense of tranquillity and harmony, making it the ideal space for relaxation.
THE FINISHING TOUCHES
One of the things I love most about my home is how the art and decor pieces tie the colour scheme together. In the living room, I’ve selected pieces that reflect the earthy, natural tones I’ve used throughout the space. The art—comprising deep greens, terracotta, and mustard yellows—complements the walnut accents and brings in some warmth without disrupting the calm palette.
Soft furnishings, such as throws and cushions, are in complementary shades of beige, olive, and soft neutrals, adding texture and comfort. These accessories bring the overall colour scheme to life, infusing the space with personality and making it feel inviting yet polished.
Choosing colours for my home was a deeply personal process, where I wanted to embrace the beauty of natural materials and create a space that reflects my love for warmth, texture, and striking details. I hope this insight into the journey of creating my colour scheme inspires you to experiment with your own home’s palette. Remember, choosing colours and materials that you love wholeheartedly will turn your space into one that feels personal, meaningful and timeless to you.
