Smokey Ash Ceramic Piece #2 by Tess Miller
- Description
A celebration of organic form and ancient technique, Smokey Ash Sculpture #2 by Noose based potter Tess Miller is a one-of-a-kind piece crafted from fine white clay. Pit-fired in collaboration with local ceramicists Fiona Cuthbert O’Meara from Naturemuse Studio, this hand-shaped sculpture is finished with layers of black ash and sealed with beeswax to create a beautifully textured, natural patina.
This sculpture is slip cast from hand poured fine white clay body and then fired in a wood fire kiln that creates the unpredictable magic of unique marking of the fire. The pit-firing process, one of the oldest ceramic traditions, embraces the unpredictable beauty of fire and natural materials such as wood, seaweed, and salt. The result is a sculptural work rich in depth and tonal variation — each mark a testament to the elemental forces that shaped it.
Ideal as a statement object for refined and contemporary interiors.
