The iconic Africa dining chair is part of the Artona series from Afra and Tobia Scarpa, designed for Maxalto, a subsidiary of B&B Italia. The full Artona series was one of the earliest collections produced by Maxalto and marked a noted period for the Scarpa design pair.

A defining characteristic of the Artona series is the revolutionary use of laminated wood with contrasting strips or veneers, creating a distinctive striped appearance.
